The aim of this NPO is to maintain and operate the former Mt. Fuji Weather Station as an open and valid observation platform for various kind of researches and education.

Mt. Fuji is symbolic of Japan because of its beautiful scenery and height (3776m). It was long regarded to have important rolls as the observation platform of natural environment including global atmosphere. In 1932, the Mt. Fuji Weather Station was established. In 1964, Mt. Fuji RADAR was established, which worked as the efficient observation fort against typhoons and being the nationwide proud for engineers and researchers.

However, in 1999, the RADAR observation was replaced by the satellite and in 2004, the manual operation was terminated. But, it dose not mean the station is no more useful. Besides the meteorological observation, it can be used very efficiently in the fields of atmospheric chemistry, high altitude medical science, astronomy, ecology, glaciology, education in nature, training and etc.

In the world, many net works of high mountains have been established and active in many scientific fields, such as European Alps, Mauna Loa, Hawaii and etc. In this field, Japan is far behind.

Therefore, we are establishing an NPO” Valid Utilization of Mt. Fuji Weather Station“ in order to make good use of the former MT. Fuji Weather Station.
